Lost in a Cave

Description

It was several weeks before Noble trusted Terence enough to let the dragon-man ride on his back, and then it was only for short distances, and without a saddle. One day Terence suggested that they try exploring a small cave not far from where he lived.
Lured in by the thought of finding treasure, Noble agreed. They journeyed down into the depths of the earth and found several interestingly-shaped stones and a few poisonous mushrooms, but nothing particularly valuable, even after hours of searching.
'Guess we should start heading back,' said Terence at last. Noble shook his head vigorously and let out a little noise of discontent, before turning about and stumbling back down the uneven path that led deeper into the cave. He wanted to find something exciting.
Suddenly one of his paws hit a slippery patch of rock and swung out from underneath him, causing him to yelp in shock as he lost his balance and fell straight into an underground pool some thirty feet below.
'Careful!' shouted Terence, but his voice went unheard as Noble began to panic and splash wildly in the water, not even seeing the incline just ahead that would lead him out of the pool. He was terrified of water, and in that moment, he was convinced that he was going to drown if he stopped swimming even for a second. Even worse, the Kukuri's fear was starting to infect Terence as well, making a cold shiver run up his spine as he gazed down into the bottomless black depths of the lake.
'C-come on, Noble,' he said, trying to coax the panicking raptor to swim towards the incline. It felt like minutes before Noble even started to pay attention, his frantic splashing beginning to cease as he pulled himself over to the edge of the pool. Terence gripped tightly onto the raptor's neck fur as they staggered up onto dry land. As soon as he knew they were safe, he let out a long, shaky sigh and muttered a thank-you to the rather damp Kukuri, who had now calmed down and was nonchalantly shaking himself to get the icy water out of his coat.

Prompt used:

XIII - I Ain't Afraid of No Ghost
Fear is a force that drives almost all creatures in times of great stress. Learning to stand and face your fears is important, but it’s also important to learn when to back down and acknowledge that you’re afraid for a reason.
° Draw or write about a time that your Kukuri was scared - what or who were they scared of and how did they deal with their fear and learn from the experience, or did they learn nothing at all?
